On the whole 31.5 mln. transactions to the amount of 192 391.1 bln. KZT (or 1 312.2 bln. US dollars) were conducted through payment systems of Kazakhstan (Interbank System of Money Transfer and Interbank Clearing System) in 2011. As compared to 2010 quantity of payments in payment systems increased by 5.9% (by 1 754.1 thousand transactions) and amount of payments increased by 2.5% (by 4.7 trl. KZT).

Interbank System of Money Transfer (ISMT).

Quantity of participants as of 1 January 2012 made up 50[1] , including: 39 second-tier banks and JSC “Development Bank of Kazakhstan”; the Committee of the Treasury of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan; 5 organizations carrying out certain kinds of bank operations (JSC “Kazpost”, JSC “Central depositary trust company”, JSC “Kazakhstan stock exchange”,  Kazakhstan interbank settlement centre, Clearing house of KISC); State center on pension payment; The Interstate Bank and Eurasian Development Bank; the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In 2011 11.8 mln. transactions to the amount of 188 666.4 bln. KZT (1 286.8 bln. US dollars) were conducted through ISMT.

As compared to 2010 quantity of payments increased by 3.2% (by 369.8 thousand transactions) and amount of payments increased by 2.3% (by 4 215.5 bln. KZT).

On an average 47.9 thousand transactions to the amount of 763.8 bln. KZT passed through ISMT per day in 2011 which is more than the level of 2010 in respect of quantity by 4.1% (by 1.9 thousand transactions) and more in respect of amount by 3.1% (by 23.1 bln. KZT). At that the average amount of one payment document in ISMT during 2011 made up 16.0 mln. KZT and less as compared to 2010 by 0.9% (by 146.9 thousand KZT).

At that through ISMT, system-significant payment system of the country, during 2011 98.1% of total value of non-cash payments in the country and 37.6% of their total quantity were processed, which gives evidence of fulfillment by ISMT of intended purpose in conducting the most large-size and high-priority payments.     

Interbank Clearing System.

Quantity of participants in the Interbank Clearing System as of 1 January 2012 made up 39, among them 33 second-tier banks, the Committee of the Treasury of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 3 accounts for the State center on pension payment, JSC “Kazpost”.

Flows of retail payments during 2011 made up 19.6 mln. documents to the amount of 3 724.7 bln. KZT (25.4 bln. USD). As compared to 2010 quantity of documents in clearing system increased by 7.6% (by 1 384.2 thousand documents) and amount of payments increased by 14.5% (by 471.2 bln. KZT).

On an average 79.5 thousand documents to the amount of 15.1 bln. KZT passed through clearing system per day, which is more than the level of 2010 in respect of quantity of payments by 8.5% (by 6.2 thousand transactions), in respect of amount of payments by 15.4% (by 2.0 вln. KZT). At that the average amount of one payment in Interbank Clearing System made up 189.7 thousand KZT which is more as compared to 2010 by 6.4% (by 11.4 thousand KZT).

Moreover, in the Interbank Clearing System designed for conducting payments not being high-priority and not exceeding amount of 5 mln. KZT, there were carried out 62.4% of total quantity of non-cash payments in the country and 1.9% of their total value, which also gives evidence of fulfillment by clearing system of it intended purpose in conducting significant quantity of payments to small amounts.
