On the whole 32,4 mln. transactions to the amount of 170,7 trl. KZT (or 1 144,8 bln. US dollars) were conducted through payment systems of Kazakhstan (Interbank System of Money Transfer and Interbank Clearing System) in 2012. As compared to 2011 quantity of payments in payment systems increased by 2,8% (by 888,5 thousand transactions) and amount of payments decreased by 11,3% (by 21,7 trl. KZT).

Interbank System of Money Transfer (ISMT).

Number of participants as of 1 January 2013 made up 49[1], including: 38 second-tier banks and JSC “Development Bank of Kazakhstan”; the Committee of the Treasury of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan; 6 organizations carrying out certain kinds of bank operations (JSC “Kazpost”, JSC “Central depositary trust company”, JSC “Kazakhstan stock exchange”,  Kazakhstan interbank settlement centre, Clearing house of KISC); State center on pension payment; the Interstate Bank and Eurasian Development Bank; the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In 2012 12,3 mln. transactions to the amount of 166,5 trl. KZT (1 116,5 bln. US dollars) were conducted through ISMT.

As compared to 2011 quantity of payments increased by 3,9% (by 456,5 thousand transactions) and amount of payments decreased by 11,8% (by 22,2 trl. KZT).

On an average 49,7 thousand transactions to the amount of 674,0 bln. KZT passed through ISMT per day in 2012 which is more than the level of 2011 in respect of quantity by 3,9% (by 1,8 thousand transactions) and less in respect of amount by 11,8% (by 89,8 bln. KZT). At that the average amount of one payment document in ISMT during 2012 made up 13,6 mln. KZT and less as compared to 2011 by 15,0% (by 2,4 mln. KZT).

At that through ISMT, system-significant payment system of the country, during 2012 97,5% of total value of non-cash payments in the country and 38,0% of their total quantity were processed, which gives evidence of fulfillment by ISMT of intended purpose in conducting the most large-size and high-priority payments.     

Interbank Clearing System.

Number of participants in the Interbank Clearing System as of 1 January 2013 made up 37, among them 31 second-tier banks, the Committee of the Treasury of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 3 accounts for the State center on pension payment, JSC “Kazpost”. 

Flows of retail payments during 2012 made up 20,1 mln. documents to the amount of 4 218,5 bln. KZT (28,3 bln. USD). As compared to 2011 quantity of documents in clearing system increased by 2,2% (by 432,1 thousand documents) and amount of payments increased by 13,3% (by 493,8 bln. KZT).

On an average 81,2 thousand documents to the amount of 17,1 bln. KZT passed through clearing system per day, which is more than the level of 2011 in respect of quantity of payments by 2,2% (by 1,7 thousand transactions), in respect of amount of payments by 13,3% (by 2,0 вln. KZT). At that the average amount of one payment in Interbank Clearing System made up 210,2 thousand KZT which is more as compared to 2011 by 10,8% (by 20,5 thousand KZT).

Moreover, in the Interbank Clearing System designed for conducting payments not being high-priority and not exceeding amount of 5 mln. KZT, there were carried out 62,0% of total quantity of non-cash payments in the country and 2,5% of their total value, which also gives evidence of fulfillment by clearing system of it intended purpose in conducting significant quantity of payments to small amounts.
