On the whole 8,0 mln. transactions to the amount of 35 965,2 bln. KZT (or 238,7 bln. US dollars) were conducted through payment systems of Kazakhstan (Interbank System of Money Transfer and Interbank Clearing System) in I quarter of 2013. As compared to I quarter of 2012 number of payments in payment systems increased by 8,5% (by 623,7 thousand transactions), while decreased amount of payments by 7,2% (by 2 782,6 bln. KZT).

 

Interbank System of Money Transfer (ISMT)

Number of participants as of 1 April 2013 made up 50[1], including: 39 second-tier banks and JSC “Development Bank of Kazakhstan”; the Committee of the Treasury of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan; 6 organizations carrying out certain kinds of bank operations (JSC “Kazpost”, JSC “Central depositary trust company”, JSC “Kazakhstan stock exchange”, Kazakhstan interbank settlement centre, Clearing house of KISC); State center on pension payment; the Interstate Bank and Eurasian Development Bank; the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In I quarter of 2013 3,1 mln. transactions to the amount of 35 037,5 bln. KZT (232,6 bln. US dollars) were conducted through ISMT.

As compared to similar period of last year number of payments increased by 14,5% (by 389,7 thousand transactions), while amount of payments decreased by 7,6% (by 2 866,4 bln. KZT).

On an average 54,1 thousand transactions to the amount of 614,7 bln. KZT passed through ISMT per day in I quarter of 2013 which is more than the level of the similar period of 2012 in respect of quantity by 18,5% (by 8,4 thousand transactions) and less in respect of amount by 4,3% (by 27,7 bln. KZT). At that the average amount of one payment document in ISMT during I quarter of 2013 made up 11,4 mln. KZT and decreased as compared to I quarter of 2012 by 19,2% (by 2,7 mln. KZT).

At that through ISMT, system-significant payment system of the country, during I quarter of 2013 97,4% of total value of non-cash payments in the country and 38,2% of their total quantity were processed, which gives evidence of fulfillment by ISMT of intended purpose in conducting the most large-size and high-priority payments.  

 

Interbank Clearing System.

Number of participants in the Interbank Clearing System as of 1 April 2013 made up 38, among them 32 second-tier banks, the Committee of the Treasury of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 3 accounts for the State center on pension payment, JSC “Kazpost”.

Flows of retail payments during I quarter of 2013 made up 4,9 mln. documents to the amount of 927,6 bln. KZT (6,2 bln. USD). As compared to I quarter of 2012 volume of documents in clearing system increased by 5,1% (by 234,0 thousand documents), while value of payments increased by 9,9% (by 83,8 bln. KZT).

On an average 85,4 thousand documents to the amount of 16,3 bln. KZT passed through clearing system per day, which is more than the level of the similar period of 2012 in respect of quantity of payments by 8,7% (by 6,9 thousand transactions) and more in respect of amount of payments by 13,8% (by 2,0 bln. KZT). At that the average amount of one payment in Interbank Clearing System made up 190,6 thousand KZT which is more as compared to I quarter of 2012 by 4,6% (by 8,5 thousand KZT).

Moreover, in the Interbank Clearing System designed for conducting payments not being high-priority and not exceeding amount of 5 mln. KZT, there were carried out 61,2% of total quantity of non-cash payments in the country and 2,6% of their total value, which also gives evidence of fulfillment by clearing system of it intended purpose in conducting significant quantity of payments to small amounts.
