On the issue of KÓKBÓRI bullion coins

On November 8, 2023, the National Bank of Kazakhstan (hereinafter the NBK) issues KÓKBÓRI bullion coins from the “Totems of nomads” series.

The start date of coins’ sales will be announced via the official website and social media accounts of the National Bank of Kazakhstan.

About the rebranding of bullion coins

The new KÓKBÓRI bullion coins are the result of rebranding the ALTYN BARYS and KÚMIS BARYS bullion coins conducted by the NBK.

In the design of KÓKBÓRI, the aesthetics of the coin series “Cult animals – totems of nomads” has been applied. The exclusive design makes KÓKBÓRI bullion coins attractive not only from an investment perspective but also for collecting and as a gift.

For the first time, bullion coins are issued in two options:

- gold, proof quality, with face value of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500 tenge,

- gold, uncirculated quality, with face value of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 tenge,

- silver, proof quality, with face value of 1, 2, 5 and 10 tenge,

- silver, uncirculated quality, with face value of 1, 2, 5 and 10 tenge,

Proof quality gold and silver coins are manufactured using a protective element in the form of an interference rainbow coating. Additionally, unlike uncirculated quality coins, these coins will be issued in individual wooden cases of black color for gold coins and white color for silver coins.

The main purpose of issuing bullion coins is to provide the public with an alternative instrument for savings and/or investment in precious metals.

Features of bullion coins:

  • obtaining investment income in the long term,
  • no value added tax when purchasing coins (except for souvenir packaging),
  • precious metal content is 99.99% (fineness 999.9).

Bullion coins must be accepted at their face value throughout the Republic of Kazakhstan for all types of payments as well as for crediting to bank accounts and for transfer, they must be changed and exchanged in all banks in Kazakhstan.

The buyback of investment coins is carried out by NBK branches at a price calculated based on the weight of chemically pure precious metal contained in the coin, as well as the morning fixing of precious metals by London Bullion Market Association (LBMA).

Bullion coins were produced at the Kazakhstan Mint.
