About Commemorative Banknotes

Comment of the Chief of Directorate of NBK Cash Department Dinara Dautova About Commemorative Banknotes

Citizens approach the National Bank of Kazakhstan when as a rule shops refuse to accept their Kultegin commemorative banknotes of 1,000 KZT denomination.

I would provide a reminder that these banknotes are legal money. They must be accepted along with all the other commemorative banknotes for any and all types of payment, banking transactions and remittances. Administrative responsibility subject to article 206 of the Administrative Offences Code is provided for refusal to accept such banknotes.

When your commemorative banknotes are not accepted, you need to approach a local office of the National Bank. We recommend to make a video record or demand a written justification of a refusal to accept the banknote.

I would point out that concurrently with Kultegin banknote there are other types of commemorative banknotes in circulation which are dedicated to memorable dates and events. They all are also legal money.

They can be changed or exchanged at all the divisions of second-tier banks and Kazpost JSC and also NBK branches. They are withdrawn from circulation as they naturally wear out

Full list of commemorative banknotes and also information about addresses and contacts of branches of the National Bank are available on NBK website.
