Comment by Director of NBK Monetary Policy Department Rustem Orazalin about Business Activity in June 2024

In June 2024, the trend towards improving business activity continued, with the Business Activity Index (BAI) reaching 51.4. The indicator is in the positive zone for the fifth month in a row. Improvement was observed in construction, services, and manufacturing. The Business Activity Index in these sectors showed moderate growth. In construction, the index amounted to 51.8 (52.2 in May), in services and production increased to 51.7 (in May 51.6 and 50.7 respectively). In these sectors, all components have improved, except for delivery times.

In the mining industry, despite the increase to 49.5 (from 49.1 in May), the indicator remains in the negative zone due to a decrease in the volume of inventories.

The Business Climate Index decreased slightly in June 2024, but remained positive. Both current and future business conditions are assessed positively, while optimism about future business conditions has decreased. As a result, the business cycle “clock” indicator remains in the boom area.
