The special issue of the publication “Economic Review of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan” covering the results of the scientific and practical conference-seminar “Challenges and Prospects for Economic Development” held on May 3 in Almaty has been published.

This issue presents the research results of the participants in the scientific discussion, including the experts from the National Bank of Kazakhstan, the academic community, research centers and international organizations.

The first section includes the articles dedicated to macroeconomic policy, coordination, and, basically, the economic stability. The studies address the issues of monetary and fiscal policy, as well as labor market and its interaction with monetary policy and inflationary processes.

Articles on the financial market as one of the factors ensuring sustainable economic growth were presented in the second section. The publications in this section cover the issues relevant to various categories of financial market participants within a wide range from households to professional market participants and securities issuers. Based on an extensive historical study of the dynamics of economic and credit cycles in Kazakhstan, some issues of the introduction of such a tool of macroprudential regulation as countercyclical capital buffer were considered. The problems of financial fraud are also considered in one of the articles in the second section.
