On the outcomes of the National Banks’ participation in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group

The National Bank’s delegation led by the Governor Galymzhan Pirmatov visited the USA to participate in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WB) held in Washington DC.

The National Bank’s senior officials participated in the plenary meetings of International Monetary and Financial Committee of the IMF (IMFC), peer-to-peer meeting of the central banks’ governors of Middle East and Central Asia, as well as at the meeting of the IMF Swiss Constituency. During the meetings, the countries discussed the challenges that central banks are facing when conducting monetary policy, and their impact on financial stability.

On the sidelines of IMF and the WB Group Spring Meetings bilateral meetings were held with the heads of central banks and international financial organizations. Meetings were held with the Managing Director of the IMF Kristalina Georgieva and the President of European Central Bank Christine Lagarde. The parties discussed the current macroeconomic situation in the region and the opportunities for further enhancement of cooperation.

Bilateral meetings were held with senior officials from the central banks of Switzerland, India, Israel, China, Hungary, Federal Reserve Bank of New York to discuss current issues within central banks’ mandate.

The National Bank’s delegation also met with Middle East and Central Asia Department’s senior team in order to discuss in-depth the content and organizational issues of joint events planned to be held in Kazakhstan this year.

Also, the National Bank jointly with the Government of Kazakhstan held meetings with the rating agencies (S&P, Fitch Ratings, Moody’s) to present information on the current macroeconomic conditions in the country.     

Furthermore, the delegation hosted sessions for potential investors and held bilateral meetings with asset managers of the National Bank.
