Meeting of the SCO Finance Ministers and Central Banks’ Governors

The SCO member states’ Finance Ministers and Central (National) Banks’ Governors held a virtual meeting. It was also attended by representatives from Kazakhstan, India, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the SCO Secretary-General. Kazakhstan was represented by the Deputy Governor of the National Bank, Mrs. Aliya Moldabekova.

The Finance Ministers and Central Banks’ Governors of the SCO member states discussed the economic recovery trends in the post-pandemic period, and also assessed the role of the governments and central banks of the SCO member states in implementing programs to support and promote business activity.

The parties also discussed the initiative to establish the SCO Development Bank and the Development Fund (special account) and agreed to proceed with mutual consultations to examine potential operational mechanisms of the new institution.

The meeting attendees noted that strengthened international cooperation in the financial sector, including within the scope of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, should become an effective tool in overcoming the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting of the SCO Finance Ministers and Central Banks Governors is one of the key agenda events in recognition of the organization's 20th anniversary.
