As of February 01, 2012 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 21 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 96.7%) like Visa International, Master Card, American Express International and China Union Pay. Beside Kazakhstani Banks issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan”; Smart Alem Card – JSC “BTA Bank” and local card of Citybank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citybank Kazakhstan”.
As of February 01, 2012 Banks have issued 9.9ln payment cards and a number of card holders reached 9.2mln (comparing the situation with the same date of 2011, there is a growth of 17,1% and 17,1% respectively).
The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 85,9%, the share of credit cards - 12,5%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and of prepaid cards is 1,5% and 0,1% respectively.
In January 2012 the volume of transactions with credit cards issued by the Kazakhstani originators was 345,9 bln.tenge (growth against January 2011 has totaled 36,1%). The number of transactions reached 12,1mln and increased by 21,6% versus January 2011. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 21,7% (2,6mln transactions) and 38,6% (47,8bln tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 21,6% (9,5mln transactions) and 35,7%(298,1bln tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (46,1% and 75,1% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and ATMs (42,0% and 16,6% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (97,9% and 88,9% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
