As of June 01, 2012 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 22 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 96.0%) like Visa International, Master Card, American Express International and China Union Pay. Beside Kazakhstani Banks issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan”; Smart Alem Card – JSC “BTA Bank” and local card of Citybank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citybank Kazakhstan”.
As of June 01, 2012 Banks have issued 10.8mln payment cards and a number of card holders reached 9.9mln (comparing the situation with the same date of 2011, there is a growth of 21,2% and 21,9% respectively).
The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 82,7%, the share of credit cards - 15,8%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and of prepaid cards is 1,4% and 0,1% respectively.
In May 2012 the volume of transactions with credit cards issued by the Kazakhstani originators was 473,4 bln.tenge (growth against May 2011 has totaled 36,8%). The number of transactions reached 16,4mln and increased by 25,6% versus May 2011. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 37,1% (3,6mln transactions) and 45,2% (67,8bln tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 22,8% (12,9mln transactions) and 35,5%(405,6bln tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (44,0% and 64,5% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and ATMs (44,5% and 25,0% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (98,1% and 88,8% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
