As of July 01, 2012 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 23 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 96.0%) like Visa International, Master Card, American Express International and China Union Pay. Beside Kazakhstani Banks issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan”; Smart Alem Card – JSC “BTA Bank” and local card of Citybank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citybank Kazakhstan”.
As of July 01, 2012 Banks have issued 11.0mln payment cards and a number of card holders reached 10.0mln (comparing the situation with the same date of 2011, there is a growth of 23,6% and 22,7% respectively).
The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 82,1%, the share of credit cards - 16,3%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and of prepaid cards is 1,4% and 0,1% respectively.
In June 2012 the volume of transactions with credit cards issued by the Kazakhstani originators was 480,9 bln.tenge (growth against June 2011 has totaled 27,0%). The number of transactions reached 15,9mln and increased by 20,1% versus June 2011. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 32,2% (3,4mln transactions) and 24,3% (60,1bln tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 17,2% (12,6mln transactions) and 27,4%(420,9bln tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (45,5% and 65,4% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and ATMs (42,4% and 25,4% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (98,0% and 88,7% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
