As of January 01, 2013 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 24 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 95,1%) like Visa International, Master Card, American Express International and China Union Pay. Beside Kazakhstani Banks issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan”; Smart Alem Card – JSC “BTA Bank” and local card of Citybank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citybank Kazakhstan”.
As of January 01, 2013 Banks have issued 12,1mln payment cards and a number of card holders reached 11,1mln (comparing the situation with the same date of 2012, there is a growth of 26,9% and 25,1% respectively).
The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 80,0%, the share of credit cards - 17,6%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and of prepaid cards is 1,4% and 1,1% respectively.
In December 2012 the volume of transactions with credit cards issued by the Kazakhstani originators was 589,8 bln.tenge (growth against December 2011 has totaled 16,7%). The number of transactions reached 18,8mln and increased by 11,5% versus December 2011. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 32,4% (number of transactions -4,3mln transactions) and 28,0% (the volume of transactions - 78,2bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 6,5% (number of transactions -14,5mln transactions) and 15,1%( the volume of transactions - 511,6bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (45,1% and 61,9% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and ATMs (38,2% and 25,8% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (97,6% and 88,9% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
