As of April 01, 2013 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 24 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 95,3%) like Visa International, Master Card, American Express International and China Union Pay. Beside Kazakhstani Banks issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan”; Smart Alem Card – JSC “BTA Bank” and local card of Citybank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citybank Kazakhstan”.
As of April 01, 2013 Banks have issued 13,0mln payment cards and a number of card holders reached 11,7mln (comparing the situation with the same date of 2012, there is a growth of 24,6% and 21,6% respectively).
The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 78,9%, the share of credit cards - 18,5%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and of prepaid cards is 1,3% and 1,2% respectively.
In March 2013 the volume of transactions with credit cards issued by the Kazakhstani originators was 519,4 bln. tenge (growth against March 2012 has totaled 21,7%). The number of transactions reached 18,1mln and increased by 16,9% versus March 2012. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 32,0% (number of transactions -4,4mln transactions) and 28,6% (the volume of transactions - 72,2bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 10,7% (number of transactions -13,7mln transactions) and 20,7%( the volume of transactions - 447,3bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (47,2% and 64,2% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and ATMs (35,1% and 22,5% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (97,8% and 89,7% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
