As of October 01, 2014 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 27 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 95,1%) like Visa International, Master Card, American Express International and UnionPay International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan”; Smart Alem Card – JSC “BTA Bank” and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citibank Kazakhstan”.
As of October 01, 2014 banks have issued 16,9 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 15,0 mln. (comparing the situation with the same date of 2013, there is a growth of 15,1% and 15,0% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 74,2%, the share of credit cards - 20,2%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 1,4% and 4,1% respectively.
In September 2014 the volume of transactions with credit cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 647,6 bln. tenge (growth against September 2013 has totaled 19,9%). The number of transactions reached 20,1 mln. and increased by 13,4% versus September 2013. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 20,1% (number of transactions 5,4 mln. transactions) and 0,6% (the volume of transactions - 82,5 bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 11,2% (number of transactions -14,7 mln. transactions) and 23,4%( the volume of transactions - 565,1 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (56,0% and 73,0% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and ATMs (26,8% and 17,6% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (96,7% and 85,3% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
