As of January 01, 2015 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 28 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 94,0%) like Visa International, Master Card, American Express International and UnionPay International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan”; Smart Alem Card – JSC “BTA Bank” and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citibank Kazakhstan”.
As of January 01, 2015 banks have issued 17,3 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 15,2 mln. (comparing the situation with the same date of 2014, there is a growth of 4,4% and 5,5% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 75,6%, the share of credit cards - 18,2%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 1,5% and 4,7% respectively.
In December 2014 the volume of transactions with credit cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 877,8 bln. tenge (growth against December 2013 has totaled 25,3%). The number of transactions reached 25,5 mln. and increased by 15,7% versus December 2013. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 29,5% (number of transactions 7,1 mln. transactions) and 10,4% (the volume of transactions - 101,1 bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 11,1% (number of transactions -18,4 mln. transactions) and 27,5%( the volume of transactions - 776,6 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (55,0% and 68,1% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and ATMs (23,7% and 17,9% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (96,4% and 83,2% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
