As of February 01, 2015 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 28 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 94,0%) like Visa International, Master Card, American Express International and UnionPay International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan”; Smart Alem Card – JSC “BTA Bank” and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citibank Kazakhstan”.
As of February 01, 2015 banks have issued 17,1 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 15,1 mln. (comparing the situation with the same date of 2014, there is a growth of 1,8% and 4,0% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 76,8%, the share of credit cards - 17,9%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 1,6% and 3,7% respectively.
In January 2015 the volume of transactions with credit cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 554,4 bln. tenge (growth against January 2014 has totaled 15,6%). The number of transactions reached 18,4 mln. and increased by 14,2% versus January 2014. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 27,4% (number of transactions 5,7 mln. transactions) and 1,9% (the volume of transactions - 69,2 bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 9,1% (number of transactions -12,6 mln. transactions) and 17,9%( the volume of transactions - 485,1 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (55,2% and 69,1% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and ATMs (20,6% and 16,5% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (95,9% and 85,5% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
