Front side

The central images of the front side are:

– branch of the “Tree of Life” with a soaring bird (Issyk Mound, 5-4 centuries BC, detail of the headdress of the Golden Man, the sacred meaning of the connection between nature and belief);

– a DNA spiral and infinity symbol stylized as an ornament, representing the connection between humans and nature;

– an artifact – a fragment of a psalia in the form of an argali head (Berel burial mounds, “Valley of the Kings,” 8th–7th centuries BC, East Kazakhstan Region).

 

Back side

The main images on the back side are:

– an argali native to Kazakhstan, set against a shield stylized with ornamentation;

– behind the main image, a circular Kazakh ornament that incorporates several ideas at once:

• a “shield,” symbolizing the protection of values;

• an ancient symbol of the four cardinal directions;

• a solar sign at the center as a symbol of creative energy and life;

– at the center of the banknote, serving as the background, is the outline of the Kazakh “infinity” ornament, within which a landscape view of Mount Muztau is depicted.

Front side: main colors – blue. The main images are the «Kazakh Yeli» monument in Astana, flying doves, state symbols of the Republic of Kazakhstan: flag and emblem.

Back side: main colors – blue. The main images are gulls flying over the Caspian Sea, and the contour line of the map of Kazakhstan.

 

500 TENGE BANKNOTE OF 2006

 

Date of issue: 15.11.2006

Size: 130х67 мм

Front side: main colors – blue and gray. The main images are the «Baiterek» monument in Astana, fragments of notes of the national anthem, open palm, state symbols of the Republic of Kazakhstan: flag and emblem.

Back side: main colors – blue and gray. The main images are the gulls flying over the Caspian Sea, buildings of Ministry of finance and Akimat of Astana, the contour line of the map of Kazakhstan. 

Starting from June 12^th, 2021, banknotes issued since year 2006 can be exchanged for an unrestricted period of time. Banknotes issued in the year 2006 that have been withdrawn from circulation can be exchanged for an unrestricted period of time in the territorial branches of the NBK.

500 TENGE REDESIGNED BANKNOTE OF 1999

Front side: main color – blue. The main image is the portrait of the scientist of East, thinker, mathematician and philosopher Al-Farabi (870-950). Additional security elements (Kazakh national patterns and «500» number that appears depending on the banknote’s angle of view) are applied.

Back side: main color – blue. The main image is the fragment of the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi.

Attention: in accordance with Regulations of Governing Body of the National Bank of Kazakhstan No. 68 dated July 25, 2006 "On Replacement of Banknotes of National Currency of the Republic of Kazakhstan banknotes" banknotes with a face value of 500 tenge of 1999 are ceased to be legal since November 15, 2007.

Front side: main color – blue. The main image is the portrait of the scientist of East, thinker, mathematician and philosopher Al-Farabi (870-950). Additional security elements (demetalized thread with «Kazakhstan» inscription and «500» number, gold intaglio) are applied.

Back side: main color – blue. The main image is the fragment of the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi.

Attention: in accordance with the Regulations of Governing Body of the National Bank of Kazakhstan No. 68 dated July 25, 2006 "On Replacement of Banknotes of National Currency of the Republic of Kazakhstan banknotes" banknotes with a face value of 500 tenge of 1999 are ceased to be legal since November 15, 2007.
