In 2005 second-tier banks and JSC «Kazpost» performed 80 895.9 thousand transactions valued at a total of 46 403.9 billion KZT with using payment instruments presented in the Table 1. Overall the use of various payment instruments has been increased.

Compared to 2004 the volume of various payment instruments used increased by 28.3 percent, and the value of payments increased by 39 percent.

Growth in the total volume of payment instruments was due mainly to an increase in the volume of payment orders by 4 591.7 thousand transactions and the volume of transactions using payment cards by 13 231.4 thousand transactions. Growth in the value of payments was due to an increase in the amount of payments using payment orders by 12 659.8 billion KZT.

As before payment orders and payment cards are the instruments used most commonly on the territory of Kazakhstan. The average value of payment order in 2005 was 1.5 million KZT and in comparison with 2004 increased by 18.2 percent. The high proportion of transactions using payment cards and the low value of payments is due to the use of this payment instrument primarily for the withdrawal of small sums of cash (the average amount of a cash withdrawal transaction in 2005 was 16.6 thousand KZT).

Bills of exchange, payment request-orders and checks to pay for goods and services are used the least frequently. The insignificant part of use of given instruments in total volume and value is caused by their specificity (the total part of given instruments has made 0.4 percent and 1.0 percent of total volume and value of payments with using payment instruments).
