On December 6, 2023, the National Bank of Kazakhstan issues al-Farabi, Kurmangazy and Syuinbay collectible coins from the “Portraits on banknotes” series.

The coins will be available for purchase via the NBK Online store kazcoins.nationalbank.kz starting from December 8, 2023.

About the collectible coins of the “Portraits on Banknotes” series

The new coins are dedicated to portrait images of the first series of banknotes of the national currency of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the design of 1993 depicting outstanding historical figures – the scientist al-Farabi, akyn Suyunbai Aronuly, kuishi Kurmangazy, scientist and ethnographer Shokan Ualikhanov, poet and philosopher Abay, as well as the Kazakh khans Abulkhair and Abylay.

In 2011-2013, collectible gold coins al-Farabi, Kurmangazy and Suyinbay were released into circulation. Taking into account the wishes of collectors and general public, the series is being expanded to include coins made of silver and a nickel silver alloy.

The coins are made of:

- 925/1000 silver, weighing 31.1 grams, diameter 38.61 mm, proof quality, face value 500 tenge and a mintage of 2,000 (two thousand) pieces each;

-  nickel silver alloy CuNiZn 15-20, weighing 11.17 grams, diameter 31 mm, uncirculated quality, face value 200 tenge and a mintage of 50,000 (fifty thousand) pieces each.

Collectible coins must be accepted at their face value throughout the Republic of Kazakhstan for all types of payments as well as for crediting to bank accounts and for transfer, they must be changed and exchanged in all banks in Kazakhstan.

The collectible coins were produced at the Kazakhstan Mint.
