On September 4, 2020, the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan issues collectible coins “Year of the Ox” from the series “Oriental calendar” made of gold and silver with a face value of 500 tenge. The coins will be available to purchase from September 8, 2020.

The coins can be purchased in all the territorial branches of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, as well as through the National Bank's online store. The addresses of the territorial branches can be found on the website.

The motives of the sculptural composition of the “Oriental Calendar” fountain (Almaty) are used in the design of coins. The authors of the sculptural composition: honored art worker of Kazakhstan, monumental artist V. Tverdokhlebov in collaboration with A. Tatarinov and V. Katsev.

Description of “Year of the Ox” coins

The obverse of the coin depicts the mythological symbols of the constellations of the star map and inscriptions indicating the metal from which the coin is made, it’s fineness and mass. Along the perimeter of the coin are the inscriptions “ҚАЗАҚСТАН РЕСПУБЛИКАСЫ” and “REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN”, a stylized image of the sun and an inscription denoting the face value.

On the reverse of the coin in the central part there is an image of an Ox - the symbol of 2021 year according to the oriental calendar. Along the perimeter of the coin are the inscriptions “2021”, “ШЫҒЫС КҮНТІЗБЕСІ”, “ВОСТОЧНЫЙ КАЛЕНДАРЬ” and “ORIENTAL CALENDAR”. On the inner side of the coin are the images of the remaining eleven symbols of the oriental calendar.

The gold and silver coins are made in the shape of a dodecahedron and have identical images on the obverse and reverse sides.

Coins are made:

1) of gold 999/1000 grade, 7,78 grams, 21,87 mm, “proof” quality, face value 500 tenge, mintage of 800 pieces;

2) of silver 925/1000 grade, 31,1 grams, 38,61 mm, “proof” quality, face value 500 tenge, mintage of 2,000 pieces.

The above mentioned coins are intended for sale at a collectible cost.

Collectible coins with a face value of 500 tenge are obligatory for acceptance at their face value in the Republic of Kazakhstan for all types of payments, as well as for crediting to bank accounts and for transferring and exchanging without any restrictions in all banks of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The above mentioned coins are issued in souvenir packaging and are equipped with a quality certificate of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the State, Russian and English languages.

Collectible coins are produced at the Republican State Enterprise “Kazakhstan Mint of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.”
