International conference "Payment Systems and the Payment Services Market under Current Conditions" (Astana, July 3-4, 2017).

The event was attended by representatives of the central banks of the CIS member states, Europe, the Baltic states and the Pacific Region, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Interstate Bank. The main objectives of the conference were to discuss urgent issues in the area of payment services using the digital technologies, the latest trends in development of payment systems, analysis of existing challenges in the payment market. Addressing the participants of the event, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan G. Pirmatov said that the conference was taking place in the key period for the global financial industry, when the established way of life, relations, processes in the financial and, especially, payment sphere are  being transformed. “There is an explosive growth in the fintech industry around the world, the demand of the population for the fast, remote and full-featured services is growing. These changes bring about new opportunities and prospects for the market participants. It is important to understand and find a correct balance between the benefits of using digital services and the risks they bear, which undoubtedly cannot but affect the activities of both the regulator and participants of the payment services market” — emphasized Deputy Governor of the NBK.

The conference featured the issues of providing digital services, increasing the financial accessibility thereof for the population, cybersecurity, digitalization of payment ecosystems, and application of new technologies in the financial sphere, including blockchain technology.
