NBK Management Board approved changes to documents related to currency regulation

The National Bank of Kazakhstan informs about a next meeting of the Management Board of the National Bank of Kazakhstan. The meeting passed a report on situation on the money and foreign exchange markets, and approved a report on results of trust management of the National Fund of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the fourth quarter of 2024.

The foreign exchange assets of the National Fund at the end of 2024 totaled USD 58.8 billion. Investment income at the end of 2024 was positive and made USD 4.6 billion or 7.6%. Accumulated return of the fund since its establishment is around 128% or 3.55% in annual terms.

The Management Board of the National Bank also made amendments and additions to a number of regulatory legal acts of the National Bank on foreign exchange regulation. Amendments were made to reduce deadlines for banks to submit reports on foreign exchange transactions, and the list of transactions that may be designed to evade requirements of foreign exchange legislation and which are subject to financial monitoring was expanded. Moreover, decision of the Management Board established limits of deviation of the purchase rate from the sale rate of foreign currency in cash under transactions carried out through exchange offices: for USD - 7 KZT, for Euro - 10 KZT.

Moreover, a decision was made to issue into circulation a banknote of the national currency of the Republic of Kazakhstan with a denomination of 1,000 KZT with a modified design of the 2024 sample from March 28, 2025. The design was approved and two new collectible coins were issued into circulation in 2025: "GRIFFIN" from the "Legends and Myths of Nomads" series and "OTYRAR" from the "Studying Coins - Discover Kazakhstan" series.

At the meeting of the Management Board, decisions were also made to amend and supplement some decrees of the Management Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan on payment systems and other issues related to activities of the National Bank.
