On the launch of an Anti-Fraud Center for the exchange of data on fraudulent transactions
The National Bank of Kazakhstan informs that the Center for the Exchange of Data on Fraudulent Transactions (the Anti-Fraud Center) has been put into commercial operation. The project was implemented jointly with law enforcement agencies and financial market participants.
The Anti-Fraud Center was established to counter fraudulent transactions, and also allows financial organizations to detect and block fraudulent transactions, promptly address if potential fraud issues, and exchange information in real time between the center’s participants. The operations of the Anti-Fraud Center also involves maintaining a centralized database of fraudulent activities.
Since the launch of the platform, financial organizations and law enforcement agencies have detected about 400 incidents of fraudulent transactions and blocked funds in the amount of about 30 million tenge related to fraudulent activities.
Further development of the Anti-Fraud Center includes expansion of technological capacity using Open Application Programming Interfaces (Open APIs) and automation of business processes. It is planned to apply artificial intelligence technologies to raise efficiency of detecting suspicious transactions.
National Bank of Kazakhstan also highlights that employees or representatives of the Anti-Fraud Center will never contact individuals by phone to collect information or perform any operations, which should be considered as potential fraud.
In its operations, the Anti-Fraud Center does not communicate with general public but interacts solely with financial institutions, payment organizations, law enforcement agencies, and mobile operators. In this regard, financial services consumers are asked to be vigilant and disregard if fraudulent calls on behalf of the Anti-Fraud Center occur.
