On inflation trends in the regions of Kazakhstan in May 2023

The National Bank of Kazakhstan published data on inflation trends in the regions of Kazakhstan.

In May 2023, the country’s annual inflation slowed down and made 15.9% (16.8% in April). In terms of regions, annual inflation slowed down in 19 regions, while in 1 region (Akmola region) it did not change, remaining at the previous level of 17.6%.

The highest values of annual inflation were recorded in Akmola, Mangystau and North Kazakhstan regions.

Growth pace of food products in May slowed down to 16.5% YoY (17.9% in April). The highest increase in prices for goods in this group was observed in the Mangystau region (20.7%), while the lowest was in Almaty city (14.3%).

Growth rate of prices for non-food products decelerated to 17.2% YoY (18.2% in April). The maximum value was recorded in Astana city (23.6%), while the minimum was in Almaty region (14.1%).

Prices for paid services in May slowed down to 13.5% YoY (13.7% in April). At the same time, prices rose significantly higher than the national level in Akmola region (at 18.1 %) and significantly lower in Astana city (10.2%).

In May 2023, growth of monthly inflation in the country amounted to 0.6%, which is higher than the historical average (0.5 in May 2017-2021).
